Park Min-Sun

Choi Sun-Nam
Abstract
This study is designed to clarify the question of, ¡°What is therapeutic flow and as art therapists, how can we expose the relative experience of it in the treatment relationship with patients?¡± In order to explore the experience and meaning of therapeutic flow within the three-party relationship (patient, art therapist, artwork), it was necessary to first conduct an autobiographical investigation. The method of research was narrative inquiry along with qualitative research specific to understanding the contextual framework of one¡¯s life. In this study, experience of treatment flow was grouped into one of the following three categories: personal ego effecting more, relationship dependent, and discarding and filling. The meaning of the experience found during the process of revealing it was, to first, acknowledge the difference between care and concern. Second, maintain a receptive attitude. Third, listen to self and fourth, let go of the past and focus on the present. Therapeutic flow proved to be, not only an effective burnout prevention measure, but also a key component of therapeutic growth.
